For the month of January Strava.com challenged riders to cover 6,142 meters.
With this challenge I was inspired to head into the Noosa and Sunshine coast hinterland. This took me out to Kenilworth and up Obi Obi road a road that appears lovely and slightly descending, over a few little bumps following the creek. Then you reach a ramp that rises to about 9% which is not to viscous. Your covered by the shade of trees the road surface is just rough enough. Once you reach the section of road with a sign advising caravans to go not further, the road pitches sharply to 24% and it feels like it goes on forever, just when you feel you can go no further the road levels slightly until you turn a corner and then up it goes again. And again you feel as if you can go no further at this gradient, yet you start to see the tops of trees and a sign that informs you of entering traffic. You take stock and hit the top. Here you find yourself having climbed from 120m to over 450m, while most of this is quiet gentle the last 10km takes your from 134m to 468m. Then it is all down hill to Nambour. I rode back via Yandina and Eumundi. To see more head over to the map
